Carson and Hyam Making Progress Thu 12th Apr 2012 08:48
Blues boss Paul Jewell says young midfielders Josh Carson and Luke Hyam have made progress this season despite only rarely appearing in the first team. Carson, who was back in the side which lost 2-1 to Leicester on Monday, has made only six starts and 10 sub appearances, scoring twice, while Hyam has been in the XI seven times and has come off the bench once.

David Nugent scored his usual goal at Portman Road as Leicester came from a goal behind to beat the Blues 2-1 and inflict their first home defeat since January 2nd. Jason Scotland put the Blues deservedly in front in the 43rd minute but soon after Ben Marshall’s freekick went through both wall and Arran Lee-Barrett with Nugent heading in the winner in a second half dominated by the visitors.

Chief executive Simon Clegg has confirmed that the Blues will not be applying for Academy Category One status for next season. Town have opted for Category Two in the Elite Player Performance Programme (EPPP) reorganisation of youth football which comes into effect this summer, but as reported by TWTD earlier in the month, could look to upgrade after promotion to the Premier League.
